OVB to host veterans day lunch

November is a time to not only give thanks, but to also honor the veterans who sacrificed everything in order for us to enjoy the freedoms we have today. While Veterans Day was celebrated and observed Sunday and Monday, Ohio Valley Bank is continuing the celebration with a special event for veterans tomorrow.

The Veterans Day event will take place at the Bossard Memorial Library in Gallipolis, Ohio. [Last year’s event pictured above.] Festivities will be located in the Riverside Meeting Room, with the opening ceremony set for 10:30 a.m. Lunch for veterans will then be served immediately following until 2 p.m. All veterans are encouraged to attend and share in the food and fellowship.

OVB also just launched special veterans Community First Debit Cards. The upgrade to one of these designs is available for $10 with proceeds going back to the bank’s Veterans Action Committee for outreach. Veterans will be able to obtain an upgrade to one of the new military designs for free, and OVB will still give $10 to the bank’s Veterans Action Committee on their behalf. The cards are just one of the many projects that the recently established Veterans Action Committee has worked to achieve.

OVB’s Veterans Action Committee, which was officially established in August, has a two-part mission: to raise funds as well as collect items of clothing and food to give to local VA hospitals and veterans homeless shelters; and to boost OVB’s involvement in the veteran community year-round. The committee’s bank-wide coat drive recently wrapped, and according to Stephen Ball, OVB employee and committee chair, 371 coats of all sizes were collected. The coats will be donated to the Chillicothe VA Medical Center, Hershel Woody Williams VA Medical Center (Huntington), Homeless Veterans Resource Center (Huntington), Athens VA Clinic and Gallipolis VA Clinic. Each location will receive a donation of approximately 75 coats.

Prior to the official establishing of the committee, OVB sponsored a Ruck Walk 5K in July. The event raised more than $2,000, which was donated to the Chillicothe and Huntington VA Medical Centers. Plans are already underway for the second annual Ruck Walk 5K, which will take place summer 2019.
