Celebrate Independence Day Locally

Summer is finally in full-swing. In the sunshine season, there are many local activities taking place. With Independence Day just around the corner, look no further than your own community for a festive way to celebrate the fourth.

Many Fourth of July events kick off this weekend. In Mason County, W.Va. the annual Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta is set to take place June 29, 30, and July 1. In addition to pageants as well as musical entertainment, there is also a 5K and 10K run scheduled for 8 a.m., Saturday, July 1, with registration from 6:45-7:45 a.m. There will also be a kid’s fun run at the completion of the 5K/10K. The run will begin at the Point Pleasant River Museum. Following the run, the parade is slated for 11 a.m., with line-up scheduled for 10 a.m. at Old Central School.

In Gallia County, the annual Gallipolis River Recreation Festival will get underway Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4 at the Gallipolis City Park. The event has a jam-packed schedule that includes patriotic fun for the entire family. There are several kids activities set for both days as well as a variety of musical entertainment. The 66th Annual Gallipolis Rotary Mile is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 4. Following the run, the parade will begin at 7 p.m. Fireworks will follow later at 10 p.m.

In Jackson County, Ohio, Independence Day will also share a celebration with the city of Jackson, which is observing its 200th birthday. Local events will give the community an opportunity to wish the city Happy Birthday as well as celebrate their patriotism. The celebration is scheduled for Monday, July 3. A variety of activities for both kids and families will take place at Manpower Park. Music in the park is also scheduled and a parade is set for 8 p.m. A craft show will take place from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. as well. In addition, all attendees will receive a special birthday cupcake, which will be available at 5 p.m. Fireworks are also on tap for the evening at 10 p.m. On Tuesday, July 4, there will be a 5K run. A patriotic concert is also set for Sunday, July 2.

Meigs County will be ringing in the Fourth of July with several events as well. The Middleport July 4th Celebration will feature a 6 p.m. parade with a flag raising to immediately follow. There will be music as well as fireworks at 10 p.m. On Tuesday, July 4, Racine will host a parade at 10 a.m. and fireworks, slated for 10 p.m., at Star Mill Park.

Mt. Sterling will kick off Independence Day celebrations with their Community Days Festival, scheduled for Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1. The festival will take place at the Veteran’s Field, with a parade set for Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Activities for all ages are on tap, including rides, games, live bands, a craft show, and a car show. In addition, there will be corn hole and bicycle decorating contests as well as a chili cook-off. Laser Light shows are also set to take place.

Independence Day activities in Cabell County, W.Va., include a block party and fireworks in the Village of Barboursville on Tuesday, July 4. In addition, fireworks displays are scheduled with the Dawg Dazzle event at Harris Riverfront Park on Monday, July 3; Ashland River Port, Tuesday, July 4; and Camden Park Saturday, July 8.
